What Matters Most

So we all have things in this life that have a lot of importance to us (work, family, finances, education, friends, hobbies, etc), but what is it that matters most?
For those who follow my fitness page on Facebook, Grace Fitness, you know that I have been reading The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.  If you are a Christian, new or old, or just interested in growing spiritually definitely read this book.  It helps you make realizations about why exactly we are on earth.  You'll learn that you're focus on why you are here is completely off and that we are here to serve God.  So what exactly is it that matters most?

Our lives are all about LOVE!  This is what matters most.  That we give and show love.  Love is the foundation for everything.  Why did you go to college and get a degree in your field?  Because it's something you love or have a passion for, right?  That may be love, but this love is for each other.  We can't expect others to love us if we do not love them.  Our relationships with others should be our number one priority in life.  People feel loved by the attention you give them.

I always break my reading into different points:

Life Without Love is Really Worthless
Our relationships with people is what our lives are all about.  If you didn't have relationships with anyone we would constantly be lonely and feel uncared for.  I know I have a lot of friends, but some of them I don't keep in touch with after they or I have moved and it saddens me some to know that I would want those people even from far away to support and care about me when in trouble or in times of happiness just to be there and know that they still think about me and I them.  So why exactly don't we keep in touch with those people we were once really close with...it is our lack of effort to keep that relationship and we let things get in the way.  How often do we let our time of trying to get something done for work get in the way of spending time with friends and family?  You stay later at work, you miss occasions because you work longer.  We have goals we want to reach so we don't  spend time with our friends (which I actually just turned down hanging out with a  friend to type this). When what we should do is do everything we can to build a relationship with other people.  Of the 10 Commandments given to us, six of those deal with our relationships with other people.
We are nothing without love from others and giving love to others.

Love Will Last Forever
There are 3 things that will last forever: Faith, Hope, and Love.  Love never ends, it leaves our legacy.  We devote more time to the things and people we love than anything else.  For me, I love fitness, so I spend a lot of time trying to learn new things and working out.  I love God, so I try and spend time everyday growing in my relationship with him.  How we treat other people is how we are remembered.  That is the impact we have on the world.  If we treat someone we don't know badly, that is how they will always remember us.
So that statement you always hear of,  "Treat others who you would want to be treated." reigns true even for those you do not treat you as they should.

The Best Expression of Love is...
TIME

How much time we invest in something or someone shows the measure of import ace and value it has to us.  Our time is the most precious gift we can give someone or something.  Our time shows the importance or value we have for someone.  We make focus our attention on the things we love and make sacrifices for it.

When we make sacrifices we are giving up are time.  Are you sacrificing the time with family to finish things up at work?  Love is making sacrifices and making sacrifices is love.  Love is giving up: yielding, preferences, comfort, goals, security, money, energy, or time for benefit of yourself.

Your Best Time to Love is Now
Our procrastination can be a legitimate response to a trivial task or heck, even our homework for those still in school.  Or for those wanting to get out of a relationship, breaking up with someone.
"Whenever you have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone."  Yes this includes those people who have done wrong to us.  We don't know how much time we have left, we could die tomorrow.  Why would we want to leave anyone with a bad impression of ourselves?  Circumstances change, people die, and children grow up.  Things are constantly changing in our lives.  So spend time with those you care about and love.  Our time is our most precious gift.

Give people your time!  It means more than you know.
